Resolutions??

Its almost time for those New Years Resolutions.

Do you have any?

Do you really believe in them?

These questions were asked to me by someone at work today and it got me thinking. My answer was no...to both. I don't make any resolutions because i know that after about 2 weeks i'll completely forget about it. But thats just how i am. I don't believe that we should resolve to better ourselves just because its a new year. I try to better myself whenever something happens in my life that makes me step back and re-evaluate things. I'm not judging people who do make resolutions...i think that's great for them especially if they can stick with it. I understand people saying that its a New Year which means they want a fresh start.

But, i think if you're not happy with yourself right now, why wait till the New Year?? You can have a fresh start every monday. Every day you rip off the calendar is a new day, fresh start.

This year especially, has been a HUGE growth year for me. I actually "found" myself again and i learned a lot about myself this year. But it was never a goal i intended to reach or any resolution i had made, it just happened. There was an incident last February that really helped me grow in so many ways, even though it was a terrible situation i really matured from it.

Guilty Pleasure

Okay, i will let the cat out of the bag and let you all in on a little secret. My guilty pleasures. We all have them, those little things that we just can't get enough of yet way to embarrassed to tell anyone about. Well, at the risk of being made-fun-of i am going to divulge mine with you all. My guilty pleasure is Reality TV. Now, lets make it clear, that its not ALL reality shows because well lets face it, some of them are just wayy to out there for even me! But there's something about people going on tv, airing their dirty laundry, and completely embarrassing themselves on National TV. Oh and don't get me wrong, if i had the chance, i would SO be going on one!! And i would like to think i would keep some of my dignity while doing it too.

My favorite reality shows that i just can't get enough of are : Big Brother (which i would totally go on), Amazing Race (a free trip around the world AND the chance at 1million dollars! Sign me up!), American Idol, and the Deadliest Catch...okay so there are others but you catch my drift.

Anyways, last week a new Reality TV show started. And by the looks of the previews, i thought "oh hell no!" There was no way, no how, i was gonna even subject myself to this all new low!

Haha! Until it came on. I'm talking about Momma's Boys. Somehow, this ridiculously wacked out show totally sucked me right into it. I swear, for about an hour i sat completely hypnotized by the premise of this show. Now, i'm addicted. I watched it for 2 hours last night and i can't wait to see it next week.

So, about the show. They took 3 guys (momma's boys) and their moms and throw them in a house with 30 skanks lovely women trying to find love. So basically its like the bachelor only the moms are living in the house with the girls, their are 3 guys instead of 1, and the moms play a HUGE influence on these guys. Sure, it doesn't sound all that interesting but seriously you'd have to see it to believe what some of these mothers do. For instance, getting into a hot tub with her son and his date while they are making out. Do you think the son stands up to her? Nope, he just smiles at his "mommy" meanwhile the poor girl is extremely uncomfortable. Haha!! I find it so amusing that people would actually put themselves in these situations. And these are grown men we are talking about...not teenagers! So the moms are real protective of their boys and have the girls that they approve of and disapprove of and boy do they let everyone know it!! The moms even have it out with each other and some of the girls.

Boy, do i love watching people make complete asses of themselves!! So there you have it! Momma's Boys is my guilty pleasure....for now!

Let It Snow.....ACK!

It started snowing Friday afternoon and it has not stopped!! Today is Sunday and we've already gotten about a foot and a half where i live! I had to shovel out my car yesterday and again today. Lucky for me, the guy who lives in the condo beneath me helped me out. He deserves a thank you note! I hate the snow. Its supposed to continue snowing all day, then turn to rain later, then freeze. Oh yeah, freeze...as in ice. Gee, thats fun! Have i mentioned that i hate the snow?! This is absolutely insane! It was supposed to stop snowing yesterday....ha! Never did! And just last week, on monday to be exact, it was nearly 60 degrees!! So its looking like it may be a white Christmas this year...unless the rain completely washes all the snow away. So here are some pics from today of Hunter while i was cleaning off the car.

That's A Wrap!

I suppose now is the time to start stressing. Christmas is in 5 days and i haven't wrapped a single thing. Nope. Nothing. As most of you know already, i finished shopping way back in November. So, there is no excuse for my not wrapping anything. I wont be able to really do it until probably tuesday while Hunter's in school because he'll be with me all day tomorrow and monday i have to work.

Now, you're probably saying to yourself, "Hey Dumb Blonde! Wrap at night while he's sleeping!"

Well, that would be the obvious answer to my dilemma however, I have not gotten any wrapping paper from "Santa." It seems as though everytime i think to buy it....the boy is with me. Kinda defeats the purpose. I'll have to get it tuesday....that and tape. Yeah, he used all my tape too. What is it with kids and tape anyways?? I was going to start wrapping presents for my family except i noticed all 3 rolls of my tape were MIA. So, really what was the point of me getting all my shopping done early if i was just gonna procrastinate on the wrapping??

I just need to make sure its done on tuesday. One year i waited until Christmas Eve to wrap...oh yeah that was real smart....again its the blonde....i was literally up until 2:30am wrapping the damn presents only to have him tear them open 4 hours later. I refuse to do that again. The only good thing about my situation is that i'm not pull-my-hair-out-cry-in-a-corner-can't eat-or-sleep stressed out, i kinda think its funny because i did it to myself. Yup, my happy self is still smiling... and besides, I have a plan!

Good Golly Miss Blind-e!!

Yep. Miss Blondie needs glasses. Just call me Miss Blind-e. I went today for my eye exam, which i can't even remember when the last time i had one was. My appointment was at 9:45, i wasn't seen until 10:30, which is the time i was supposed to help Hunters class. Anyways, they sit me in front of this machine that actually can "read" my eyes. She then puts the computers settings into another machine that i am supposed to read through. And low and behold....i could actually read all the lines. She then took the machine away and had me read the smallest line i could...haha...yeah only line 3!! So apparently the machine that "reads" my eyes, actually works and is pretty accurate. Miss Blondie is near-sighted...i guess that explains why i can't read the signs when i drive, huh? So, then she puts the yellow drops in my eyes and tests the pressure of my eyes and then dilates me.

So i leave the office at 11am, pupils the size of quarters and all and i drive....yup drive, myself to Hunters school. I know what you're thinking, "you're not supposed to drive after you've been dilated." Okay, well nobody told me that when i made the appointment or at all actually, so what was i supposed to do...just sit there all afternoon. Remember i'm blonde...if you don't tell me specifically i'm not gonna know. Anyways, i get to Hunters school...safely...and got to help his class finish their gingerbread houses. Unfortunately, i arrived just at the end but whatever, the kid should be grateful i care enough to show up!

So now, i am on the hunt for some inexpensive but cute glasses. Its hard for me to find glasses that fit my face...so this should be fun. Don't worry as soon as i get a pair i'll be sure to take a picture for you all to see....Miss Blind-e!!

How i found out the truth

Most of us remember when we heard the devastating news. The words that literally changed your life. You were no longer a child with a great imagination. No. You were now considered too old to fantasize and play make-believe.

I'm talking about when you found out the truth about Santa. Maybe your parents sat you down and decided it was time. Or maybe some punk kid at school told you. Mine was far worse than any of those. As much as I gripe and groan about some imaginary fat man getting all the credit for my hard work, i still want my son to believe for as long as possible. There's just something so exciting about the kids believing so much in the magic of Christmas. It makes me wish i could still believe.

Now back to how i found out. Are you ready for this?? This was probably the worst way any child could ever find out.

I was in the fourth grade, only nine years old. Sure, the kids at school all said they didn't believe and of course i went along with them. However, i really did still believe and thought those kids weren't gonna get anything because they stopped believing. I don't ever remember any of the kids saying it was the parents. It was more or less, "cool" to say you didn't believe. So there i was, in class, right before the holidays, when my fourth grade teacher asked if anyone believed in Santa Clause. We all looked around and not one hand went up. I wasn't gonna be the only kid to raise my hand and get made fun of. Thats when my whole life changed.

My fourth grade teacher told the entire class there was no Santa and it was our parents! My. Fourth. Grade. Teacher!!! I couldn't believe my ears. I remember seeing the looks of horror on some of my classmates faces (not all but some). She had just confirmed my worst nightmare. Why did she have to ruin it for me? I loved believing!

Naturally, i went home and told my mom what Mrs. C (yup i even remember her name) said. My mother was so mad, called the school and Mrs. C was not allowed to return the following year. To this day, i still hold a grudge against that bitch teacher.

O Christmas Tree...I Hate Thee....

It's official. I hate Christmas trees!! I actually LOVE them! I love getting real ones...there's just something about the smell and the look of them that i love. But right now, i hate them!! This is the second year in a row the damn thing has fallen over!! And this year I got a new stand too!!

Last year, it fell and broke a shit-load of ornaments, including Hunters first christmas ornament...which i still have to hear about. But this year, its been fine all day long. Standing straight up in this heavy-duty ultra-deluxe-you're-tree-will-never-fall-again-stand until we put just about every single ornament on it. Oh yeah, it couldn't do it when we first started....oh noooo....it had to fall as soon as we were done. Luckily, i caught the stupid thing before it hit the floor and nothing broke. But then stood there holding it up with one hand for about 15 minutes (i'm so not exaggerating) while my son hopped around panicking, and i tried to figure out what the hell to do. I had Hunter call some people to see if anyone was around to help me put the tree back in the base upright, but do you think anyone was around?? Nooo!!

Somehow i managed to hold the tree up while laying under it and unscrewed it, then straightened it and re-screwed it in. Yup, all by myself!! I'm sure it was quite the sight to see. So, momma saved the day...yet again! Another disaster diverted...for now.

Its standing there now but i swear its mocking me and its just waiting until i go to bed to topple over again. I have always loved Christmas trees but for whatever reason they seem to hate me and have it out for me! I think next year i may forfeit the real one and get a fake one.

WTF??!!!!!

This confuses the hell out of me. Yesterday and today was absolutely FRIGID!! It even snowed a litte this morning. I live in Boston so this is normal weather for December. You'd expect cold as the arctic temps and winds that could chill your ears off. The temps have been 20 degrees and below the past couple days.

Tomorrow....they're predicting temperatures to be in the upper 50's and low 60's. WHAT?!? How can it possibly go from one extreme to the next. Now i know its New England and all but seriously....even this is odd!! Do you think maybe its.....Global Warming?? That's what i blame everything on nowadays.

How sweet was this?!?

When i went to Philly just two weeks ago, Hunter stayed with my grandparents for the weekend. My grandparents happend to be very young...only 67. Hunter and my grandfather are exceptionally close...my mother refers to them as soulmates. They just have a special bond that you can probably only have with one other person in your entire life. Anyways, thats not what i wanted to tell you.

The sunday while i was gone happened to be my grandmothers 67th birthday. Hunter knew it was her birthday, i told him before i left to make sure he remembered to wish her happy birthday. When i called that afternoon to check on him and wish her a happy bday i could not believe what she told me.

He made her breakfast in bed!! It was his idea. He made her a bowl of shredded wheat and a glass of milk and brought it to her in bed, while she was still sleeping!! How sweet is he?!? Thats pretty much exactly what he did for me on mothers day too.

I am so proud to be raising a thoughtful little boy like that. He's gonna make some girl VERY happy one day.

Guitar Hero!!!!!!!!

Oh yes, Mother of the Year award...here i come!! I am so excited, i'm about to cry. The ONE major present my son wanted this Christmas was an electric guitar. He's never had lessons but wants to desperately.

Do you have any idea how much electric guitars cost?? Hundreds of dollars. Wayyy out of my budget!! Yup, no can do. There's no way i can afford that.

I'm already finished with my shopping for him, as most of you know already. He's gotten plenty of stuff. And sure he probably gets more than the average kid, but i make it a point to not buy any toys all year long. He doesn't ask, and i don't buy. So, his birthday and Christmas is it.

On to my point, i was just poking around online on Target and was going through their weekly ad...when.....what.....OH.MY.GOD.

A guitar. On sale. $88!!!! Online only!

Let me tell you a little about this guitar. It comes with: an amp, extra strings, picks, shoulder strap, learn-to-play dvd, a guitar stand, and of course a black electric guitar. The entire package was 41% off....so only $88!!! You can bet your ass i bought it!! I could return every other present i got him and just give him this and he would be ecstatic! Thats how bad he wants a guitar. He kept saying that Santa could get it for him b/c he knows i can't afford a guitar for hundreds of dollars. I've been trying to prepare him for the disappointment of not getting one on Christmas.

But now, Momma saved Christmas!!! I can't wait to see his face when he opens it!! I might even cry, considering i almost cried when i was ordering because i was so thrilled.

So from now until New Years, i'll be accepting any and all nominations for the Mother of the Year Award. Thank you!!

Comic Relief

Its been a very busy past couple days here for me as it probably has for most of you as well. We had Thanksgiving at my mothers beach house on Cape Cod, which isn't really a beachy house...its actually a five bedroom colonial but whatever. It was nice. We spent the night and on Friday i had tickets to see my favorite comedian! I have been looking forward to this night since the summer when i found out he was coming to Boston.

Jeff Dunham!

If you've never heard of him i suggest you check him out on youtube! He. Is. Hilarious. He's actually a ventriliquist with puppets like Achmed the Dead Terrorist, Walter (the grumpy old man), and my favorite Peanut! The show was two and a half hours of non-stop, cheek hurting, dry throat, tears pouring laughter. I'm NOT exaggerating!! He did all new stuff, which is good because i've watched him on youtube and comedy central a hundred times. It was a full house in the stadium which kind of surprised me because i only heard of him this year, but apparently he's been around for years. I was also surprised by the amount of kids that were there. It was in no way child appropriate....at all.

He's such a good ventriliquist, you honestly forget that he's doing the talking for the dolls. They really do come to life. Its incredible. Just so you can see for yourself, the video posted below is him and Peanut (my favorite). Please watch it....i promise you wont regret it!!

Weekend in Philly

I'm back from my weekend roadtrip to Philly with the girls!! I had so much fun!! I seriously need to get out more because i really enjoyed the 6 hour car ride too. Saturday we left pretty early in the morning and headed out. We got to our hotel around 4:30. We stayed at the nice Double Tree...and the beds were super comfy! I wanted to take home the pillows and sheets. After check in, we walked to the convention center to get Alice's number for the marathon and had dinner afterwards.

We got back to the hotel around 7pm, and we were exhausted! The party animals we are were in bed and asleep by like 8pm. I think we were just so tired from the long drive. Not one of us was motivated to go out to a bar....at all!

Sunday, Alice left before 7am to get to the race and Angie and I were gonna meet her at the finish line. We left only about an hour after her, got directions from the woman at the hotel desk and headed towards the finish......Or so we thought.

About 45 minutes into walking around the entire city of Philly we were walking with the "walkers" of the marathon. We passed by mile marker 7.

Oh yeah, totally no where near we needed to be.

We were over by all the Universities.

Walked down frat row.

Every cop we asked had no idea where the finish line was and just kept saying we had a ways to go. I think they thought we were part of the race...yeah...in our jeans with our Dunkin Donuts coffees!

Finally, someone told us the finish line was at the Rocky steps and told us how to get there. So, after an hour of "touring" the city, we finally made it to the finish line. However, we had completely missed Alice!! We were really bummed because that was the whole reason we were there. But after the race we did some sightseeing.

One day earlier and in the comfort of your own home!! You can thank me later!!

As you know from the previous blog party posts, i have already started my shopping and finished! I like to get it done early before there's any crowds and rush. Now and i can relax and enjoy the entire holiday season without the stress of buying presents.

Philly Roadtrip!

I am going on an all-girl Roadtrip this weekend!! That's right, no kids!! I can't even begin to tell you how excited i am. I, obviously, don't get out much! I don't travel. Not that i dont LOVE traveling, i just don't have the means to do it. I LOVE seeing new places and taking Tons of pictures. Which is exactly what i intend to do this weekend.

We're roadtripping to Philly. It's supposed to be a long 6 hour drive, but for me, i'm completely stoked! I've never taken a roadtrip before. And i've never been to Philly. Actually, pathetically, i can list the places i've been outside of Massachusetts on just two hands. I dont even have a passport! So, even a trip this small really is HUGE to me! As if you couldn't tell already just by reading my blog....little things always excite me!

I'm going with my friend Angie and her friend Alice who is running the half-marathon on sunday. We're leaving Saturday morning and i'm really hoping that we can see some sites on saturday after we arrive. Thats really all i wanna do. I want to see as much as i can and take plenty of pictures. Oh, and i have to have a Philly Cheesesteak too! We plan to leave on sunday night after the race. I just realized i'm not working monday so double bonus!! Bring on the long drive!

Hunter is going to spend the weekend at my grandmothers house with some of his cousins. He's thrilled. He's making me drop him off tomorrow so he can spend an extra day with them!! I'll be sure to post some pics on monday and tell you all about my mini-vaca!! Aaahh....two full days with no kids....BLISS!!

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Scare the hell out of me!! I must have some sort of repressed memory or something because even as an adult i'm scared. It brings back feelings of going to the principals office or staying after school because i wouldn't stop talking.

The Uh-Oh, i'm in trouble feeling.

I guess i'm just one of those parents that feels that my child's behavior is a reflection of me. And what if she says my kid isn't up-to grade. Or that he's disruptive in class. Or that he's just not "getting" it. My own paranoia i suppose.

I had parent-teacher conferences the other night. And of course, i get nervous as hell!! As always, it turns out fine...no big deal. His teacher, who is the size of a first grader and just graduated college last year, is really sweet as pie. She said Hunter was chatty and fidgety but if she called him he would get the answers right. He participates very well, gets along with all the kids. He's also above grade level in math and right at grade level for reading. Not. So. Scary. At. All. There was no big bad monster or detention slips getting thrown at me. So overall, the conference went pretty well. I can't complain about his progress at all.

I'd love to say i'll be fine at the next parent-teacher conference but i know i'll be scared to death again. I was like this last year too. I don't what i'm gonna do when he's a teenager and getting into REAL trouble!

Blog Party Day 3

Have you started your Christmas shopping yet? Do you budget for the holidays? Do you always stick to your budget? Share with us any budgeting tips you may have!


Have i started my Christmas shopping yet? I am just about done!!! That's right...D.O.N.E. I have a Christmas club that i started through my work about a year and a half ago. They take $25 out of every paycheck (money never seen is never missed) and on October 1st they send me this nice big fat check! Its the best thing i could have ever done....i highly recommend it. As soon as i get that check i start my shopping....for a number of reasons:
1. I hate the crowds. If i don't have to go shopping around Christmas time...then i'm not!
2. If you start early, chances are you'll find everything you need. I don't want to have to rush around the few weeks before Xmas looking for that "one" thing he really wanted, and not be able to find it.
3. The longer i have the money sitting there...the more likely i am to spend it on non-christmas related things.

I almost never stick to my budget. Because i start so early and usually use the Christmas club check rather fast, i end up buying things here and there up until christmas. I might buy one or two things a week (if i'm out). But that's my Christmas shopping routine in a nutshell!!

Blog Party Day 2

Yesterday was day one of Momdot's blog party. I unfortunately was unable to post anything due to the craziness at work. So here is my entry for day two. Day two's question is:
What are some of your favorite holida family traditions? What are some you would like to start?

I'll start with Thanksgiving. Our holidays have changed a lot in the past few years. We now spend all the holidays at my mothers with just my immediate family. My entire life up until a few years back we would go to my great aunts and spend the holiday's with ALL of my family. I'm talking 40 to 50 relatives!! Now my mother hosts it for just "us". On Thanksgiving, i usually head to my mothers early to watch the parade with them. Dinner is almost always spent cracking up laughing. We tell stories about when we were all younger and the funny things we would do and say. It really is a lot of fun. After dinner, we always watch Christmas Vacation and Elf and eat pie. Because you can't stop the laughter at the dinner table!!

Before i continue with our Christmas traditions allow me to introduce to you my rather unusual family dynamics. My immediate family consists of : my mother, step-father (who we consider our dad), myself (i'm the oldest), my brother Matt (25), my sister Kayla (10), my brother Brendan (6), and my son Hunter (7). Rather interesting, huh? My younger two siblings are "technically" half siblings, however we don't use those terms in our family. They are my dads only two biological kids. And yes, my son is older than his uncle. So, as you can see, holidays are quite interesting in my family.

Now, onto Christmas. Christmas Eve is usually spent at one of my aunts houses or my grandmothers. My mother is the second oldest sibling in her family and is one of 5. My aunts all have kids who are 7 and under. 12 kids in all!! Santa usually comes to the house, gives a present to all the kids and then we all exchange gifts. We used to do a family grab but we no longer do that, now we just buy for all the kids instead. Its complete chaos!!

I'd also like to share with you my New Years Eve traditions. I actually just started this last year but enjoyed it so much i think i'll continue with it. I feel like New Years Eve is pretty much amateur night....i don't need to go out and "party" it up like the young kids do. I always take call so the younger girls can go out and they usually take call on Christmas, so i don't have to. But last year, Hunter and I spent New Years Eve watching a movie, eating happy meals and shirley temples. I can't even tell you how much fun it was!! I think this year i might change it up a bit and make sundaes!!
