What's even funnier is that the number one search term for my blog is "KY Intense," guess my review was pretty good. But the majority of those searches come from Colleges.....hmmmm. I got one today from the Hilton Hotel in Maryland and the Holiday Inn Express in Marina, Calif....bow chicka wow wow!

Duri Cosmetics

I want to tell you all about a cosmetic collection I was recently introduced too. Duri Cosmetics. Duri has a full line of nail polish, nail treatments, and hair removal waxing line. Their new spring 2009 nail polish collection features a girlie array of pinkie peaches and pastels. And with names like Wedding Vows, Hawaiian Honeymoon, Happily Ever After, and Girl Power they are a perfect fit for a bride and her maids.

I received Duri Champagne Bubbles and Guest of Honor to try. Champagne Bubbles is a peach shimmer color and the Guest of Honor is a nice red. I decided to try them together as a not-so traditional french manicure and was pleasantly surprised by the outcome. I also received a bottle of their Drop 'N Go instant drying nail enamel drops. Its not your usual brush on but instead it has a little dropper, kind of like a medicine dropper, and you just add a drop or two to your nails. It did dry my nails pretty quick and it also gives them a nice glossy shine too, so a top coat really isn't necessary.

If you are a cosmetic addict like me, then make sure you check out Duri Cosmetics. Especially their new Spring Collection.

Peaceful Slumber

I wanted to share with you all a picture of my son after I've picked him after work at 11:30pm. For whatever reason, all three nights I work, crawls into my bed fully clothed and sleeps. I usually check my email and stuff when I get home and head into bed about a half hour later. This is what I find:

Too cute, huh? At this point, I just strip off his clothes and let him sleep in his undies and carry him into his bed. So this is what my son looks like sleeping at this very moment.

The Best Flat Irons

Achieving quality hair at home has never been easier. You no longer need to dish out hundreds of dollars to go to the salon to have your hair look good for only a day or two. With a few simple purchases, and a little patience, you can have salon-worthy hair every day without leaving the house.

Whether your hair is naturally straight or curly, long or short, flat irons are the key to achieving sleek locks - it just takes a little time. Ceramic straighteners tend to yield the best results, but there are numerous options out there for any price range.

best flat irons

Using a flat iron

How to use a flat iron is such an easy process. Simply put, all you need to do is slide the heated plates from root to tip until hair is sleek and shiny. In more technological terms, what is really happening is that the heat is breaking down the hydrogen bonds in your hair, which cause curl. Once you get the hair wet again, they re-form. You can turn curly hair straight and make straight hair even straighter.

It is hard to make a distinct choice as to which is the best flat iron out there. Depending on hair type and length each person may decide on the one they like the most. There are however, a couple that we recommend for anyone out there:

CHI Irons

Choosing the right flat iron

One of the most well known lines of hair appliances is the CHI brand. Purchasing a CHI iron or any of their other products is such a popular choice because of the technology that they use. The name evokes this as well ? Catonic Hydration Interlink. Their straighteners use Far Infra Red, which heats the hair from the inside out and penetrates deeper for better results. CHI has a wide variety of flat irons to choose from. They have ceramic irons to provide the most consistent heat, ionic irons to seal in moisture, and far infrared irons to reduce static and frizz. These are all offered in a variety of sizes as well.

Getting yourself a T3 flat iron is another direction you could go in. Their products are made with crushed tourmaline jewels and they pride themselves on using the most up to date technology available. Their Duality Tourmaline Irons are great for any type of hair, lock in moisture and add shine all while straightening. They also offer a line of Wet or Dry Tourmaline Irons, which allow you to dry and straighten all in one step. They have moisture evaporation vents that allow the water to evaporate while being simultaneously straightened. As an added bonus, their website offers styling tips on using their products.

Birthday Party Planning

Hunter's birthday isn't until September but for whatever reason, spring is the time I start to think of what we're gonna do. Ok, I pretty much panic. For the past few years, we've had a pool party at my mothers house which is 30 minutes away from where we live. However, now that he is in school I'd rather not invite all his school friends to travel that far. We also don't have a backyard, so that option goes out the window too. And to have it at a bowling alley or kids play place is so expensive! Hunter has 11 cousins alone that I always feel obligated to invite, and now he wants all his little friends from school to come celebrate as well. So for me finding an inexpensive venue to host his birthday parties is so stressful.

And then we have the themes. With the expense of the venue, the last thing I want to break the bank on is birthday party supplies. There are so many themes for kids to choose from nowadays, its great! There is always something for every kids personality. However, my son is obsessed with motorcycles and that has been the theme for the past three years! I'm hoping we can change it up this year with something else, but its not looking too promising.

I know this may seem really early, but I like to have things all planned and set....so if anyone has any great suggestions I'd love to hear them!!

Zillions Digital Counting Money Jar- Giveaway

Saving money is in my opinion one of the hardest habits to get into, and I strongly believe that if you start early you'll carry it with you throughout your life. I happen to be horrible at saving money. Always have been, always will be. So naturally, I want something different for my son. I want him to be able to save money and be consiencious with money. And I can proudly say, he already is. He saves all his money...he thinks he's gonna buy a motorcycle.

We were recently sent the Zillions Digital Counting Money Jar to review from Make More Cents. The concept of this website is to provide products that help teach children financial management. The Zillions Digital Counting Money Jar is a coin bank that actually keeps track of the money you put in. It automatically adds the value of each coin to the total and displays your total digitally on the lid. Its a great way for kids to reach a financial goal that they have set for themselves. Hunter loves being able to see how much money he has saved in his jar....even though he isn't even close to the amount needed for a motorcycyle.

Do you share my opinion on teaching kids money management?

If so, Make More Cents has offered one of my readers there very own Zillions Digital Counting Money Jar.

To Enter: Go to Make More Cents and come back here and tell me what other item you like. This is the mandatory entry, if this is not done all other entries will be disqualified.

Extra Entries:
1. Follow my blog or subscribe in a reader
2. Grab my button
3. Favorite me on Technorati
4. Add me to your blogroll
5. Follow me on Twitter and Tweet about this giveaway
6. Blog about this giveaway and get 5 extra entries.

Remember to leave a separate comment for each entry. This contest will end Friday May 8 at 11:59pm est. The winner will be notified via email and will have 48 hours to respond or a new winner will be chosen.

A Sure Way to Boost Self-Esteem

As most of you know from previous posts, I am going to Vegas for the first time in one week from tomorrow. Its so hot out there and I plan on spending some time at the pool which means....bathing suit. I will honestly admit my body is no where near bikini ready, so I've been working out and trying to get in shape. So I wanted to share with you all a recent conversation I had with my honest 7 year old son.

Me: Ick! I'm getting fat!

Hunter: Mama, you're not fat. ( I can hear a but coming...)

Me: But what?

Hunter: Nothing, you're not fat.

Me: Tell me the truth, what is it?

Hunter: You promise you won't get mad?

Me: I promise.

Hunter: Well, you're not fat, mama, you're just....lumpy.

Lumpy. I think I'd rather be called fat than lumpy. Please excuse me while I purge my bagel and cream cheese that I ate for breakfast this morning.

iCarly Season 1 Volume 2- Review

Nickelodeon is the source of all my sons favorite shows on TV right now. His favorites are iCarly, Drake & Josh, Spongebob Squarepants, and the Naked Brothers Band. I grew up on Nickelodeon back when there was "You Can't do that on Television," so I can honestly say that I am thrilled my son is a Nickelodeon fan. I love that they still have great shows that he loves and that I can sit and watch and enjoy as well.

We were recently sent the iCarly Season 1 Volume 2 DVD to review. It's a 2-disc DVD with 6 episodes on each disc. Hunter was uber-excited when it came and couldn't wait to pop it in. If you have never seen iCarly it is a comedic show about a girl (Carly) and her two friends who host a live web show. Its a show aimed at tweens and often asks viewers to log onto their website and contribute to the show, which my son has already surfed the iCarly website. Since it is one of his favorite shows, this DVD has been a huge hit. He loves all 12 episodes and has already watched it enough to actually know some of it word for word. The episodes are happy and positive, and always send a good message. I think tweens will be able to relate to the characters on the show and maybe even some of the situations.

I find the show overall to be funny, well written, entertaining, and I love the actors. Okay, so actually my true feelings on the show is that I hate the fact that the actors are going to grow up and the show will probably be over. Its one of the few shows that can entertain the both of us and lets face it...when your kids have control of the T.V. you definitely don't want to watch something painful (like Barney).

I give the iCarly DVD 2 thumbs up....and so does Hunter!

National Anthem Fenway Park

This is probably the most moving video clip I think I've ever seen. Everytime I watch it, it gives me goosebumps. It makes me proud to be from Boston but even more so this is what it means to be American.

It was Disability Awareness Day at Fenway Park in July 2007 and listen to what happens when this boy starts to get nervous and get the giggles halfway through the song.

If this doesn't move you on some level, then you should probably consider checking into therapy.

Top It Off Accessories - Giveaway

Other than the beach, my favorite thing about summer are flip-flops. I am a total flip-flop-aholic (I just made that up). I have dozens of pairs and continue to buy more every year, you can never have too many. Once Spring starts, I pretty much live in flip-flops until it starts to snow again. I was recently sent an adorable pair of the brown floral flat flip-flops from Top It Off Accessories and I couldn't wait to put them on. They are fabric thong, not plastic, so they are comfy and they are just absolutely super cute! I plan on buying several more pairs, that is how much I love these flip-flops. I'm telling you right now these are hands-down my favorite pair of flip flops that I own....and believe me that says a lot.

113th Boston Marathon

Every Patriots Day in Boston is an institution. It's Marathon monday. Today was the 113th Boston Marathon, the oldest marathon. I can't help but watch these people run 26.2 miles through the toughest route in Boston and be in complete awe. Every single person who braves it and runs it is an inspiration. Every time I watch it, I think how great of an accomplishment it would be to run that...just to say I did. The crowds along all the streets are cheering and supporting the runners along the way, its such a great sight to see.

This time every year, I always get so inspired to start running...I want to be able to run in a Boston Marathon. But then reality sets in and I run for probably about 5 minutes, huffing and puffing and throw in the towel. I can not run.

But I want to congratulate on the runners on their achievement. You truly are an inspiration.

Kidz Bop 15 - Review and Giveaway

*CLOSED*

Its hard to find kid friendly songs that both kids and adults can enjoy, because lets face it, you can only hear Raffi and the Wiggles for so long, not to mention my son has outgrown them. Kidz Bop CD's are top pop songs sung by kids for kids. My son is at the age where he understands the words of songs and sometimes songs on the radio aren't exactly the best songs that I want my son to hear. But Kidz Bop have changed that with their CD's. Not only does it sound more kid friendly when its sung by kids but I also noticed that some of the lyrics are changed. For example, the song "7 Things" which I believe is sung by Miley Cyrus (I could be wrong), which goes, "7 things i hate about you...." On Kidz Bop 15 they changed it to "7 things I like about you..." So they've taken these popular hit songs and made them just a little more family friendly. Its music that I don't mind listening to at all while driving around in my car and he can sing along too. These are the perfect CD's for when your kids are too old for the preschool songs but still too young for some of the songs on the radio. Hunter's favorite song is "So What" which he makes me listen to over and over.

Not only does the CD have fun music for you and your family, there’s some great new interactive features on the Kidz Bop website. There's a free download of the sing-a-long version of "Let it rock" and Kidz Bop Video Karaoke Maker - where kids can upload their own karaoke versions of four different Kidz Bop songs.

Would you like to win your own copy of Kidz Bop 15 right here on Good Golly Miss Blondie? To enter just go to the Kidz Bop website and tell me what you or your kids favorite song on this CD is. That's it! This is the mandatory entry if it is not followed then all other entries will be disqualified.

Extra Entries:
1. Follow me on blogger or in google reader
2. Follow me on Twitter and Tweet about this giveaway
3. Favorite me on Technorati
4. Add me to your blogroll
5. Add my button to your sidebar
6. Get 5 extra entries for blogging about this giveaway

Finish Quantum Dishwashing Detergent- Giveaway

*CLOSED*

Finish, is the new name for Electrasol and Finish Quantum is their new automatic dish washing detergent designed for consumers who want perfect dishes every time they wash. Finish Quantum has a multi-chamber system that is pre-measured and wrapper free. There are 3 separate powerful active ingredients that get released when needed in the dishwashing cycle.

  1. Powerball with Jet Dry Gel

  2. Powermax Bleach removes stain

  3. Powerful Enzymes soften burnt-on food.

I was very excited to have the opportunity to try this new product. I always use too much detergent when I fill the dishwasher and even then my dishes don't seem to always get clean. I will be completely honest with you, I was pretty skeptical of this detergent because it just didn't seem like it would be enough detergent. It comes in a little square with a clear covering that you don't need to remove, it dissolves in the wash cycle and you just drop it in the detergent cup and go. That's it. So, when I tested it I made sure I waited until a few days after we had spaghetti for dinner. I did not rinse the dishes off before I put them in the dishwasher, so all that sauce was dried and crusted on the plates....AND pots. Yup, I threw the pots in too as an extra test. Well, much to my surprise, my dishes actually did come out nice and clean. They were completely dry and there wasn't a trace of sauce on the plates or pans. I've used this detergent quite a few times now and I have to say it really is great! I love that I don't have to measure the detergent and I don't' bother to even rinse my dishes off anymore....saving water!!

How would you like to try Finish Quantum for yourself?? Well, Finish Quantum would like to give 3 of Miss Blondie's readers their Finish Quantum Dishwashing Detergent and Jet Dry Turbo Dry. Yes 3 of my readers will one of each product!!

To Enter: Go To Finish and come back here and tell me another Finish product you would like to try. This is the mandatory entry, if it is not done all other entries will be disqualified.

Extra Entries:

1. Follow my blog
2. Follow me on Twitter and Tweet
3. Favorite me on Technorati
4. Grab my button or add me to your blogroll

Remember to leave a separate comment for each entry. This giveaway will end at 11:59 pm EST on Sunday May 3. The winners will be notified via email and will have 48 hours to respond or a new winner will be chosen. Good Luck!

My Obsession

When I was a little girl I was obsessed with one thing. My obsession started to fizzle a little by the time I had graduated highschool. To do this day, this obsession still holds a special part in my heart but it is not near as important to me as it once was. It really was my life.

What was my obsession?

Hockey.

Boston Bruins hockey.

The good ole 90's hockey with Ray Bourque, Cam Neely, Adam Oates...just to name a few Bruins. They were also the days of Wayne Gretzky, Brett Hull, and Mario Lemieux. Yes, those all came from the top of my head...along with many others who are not named here. You see, I started watching hockey in the late 80's and my love for the game just grew. I used to collect hockey cards (proset, upperdeck, topps) and I even played street hockey with the boys...i was always goalie. Any trivia question you could throw at me, I knew the answer too. I can remember a lot even still from the 90's it was a true love affair I had with hockey.

In middle school and early high school my love affair turned obsessive. I made rules for hockey. I NEVER missed a Bruins game. I would make sure I was home for all 80+ games and no one could call me or come over during the games. Seriously, all my friends new if the Bruins were on, not to call. And even though the team wasn't the greatest, I was never a fair-weather fan. I stuck by my team. Even when Ray Bourque got traded to Colorado so that he could have a chance at winning the Stanley Cup (which he did btw), it was a bittersweet moment. Thats a true dedicated fan right there!

Late high school and after high school I finally got a life of my own. I was still a hockey fan though. But then the NHL lockout happened and I swear that totally changed the game for me. And I don't blame any one side for it, but after not having hockey for that one year i've never been able to get back into it the same way. However, I do still consider myself a fan. I still love going to games. Whether its a good thing or a bad thing, i don't watch nearly as many games as I did.

But let me tell you.....playoff hockey. Is. The. Best!! The Bruins played (and beat) Montreal last night in a great game. And this year the B's may actually have a shot at going all the way...which I have never witnessed in my lifetime. Its hard not to get into a hockey game when its the playoffs and fans are pumped (and hockey fans are the craziest!), the hits are harder, and the players play like its their last chance. I love it!! So even as I sit here and write this I'm bouncing around in my seat all pumped up just thinking about Game 2 tomorrow night.

Are there any other crazy hockey fans out there??

Go Bruins!

If Mama Blog Tour

I'd like to introduce you all to Lucy Adams, author of If Mama Don't Laugh, It Ain't Funny. Lucy Adams has stopped here at Good Golly Miss Blondie for her virtual blog book tour. It's a hilarious book that anyone who is a mother must read. I can relate to so many stories in her book and I love the way she interperts life as a mother. If laughter is the best medicine, then this book is definitely the prescription you need. Trust me this is one book you'll want to read!

Here is an exerpt from her book:

Tattle-some-evil, Do-some-evil, See-some-evil, Say-some-evil,

The kids, in the midst of our dressing frenzy, wander off to the sofa, where I find them lined up, oldest to youngest, Say-some-evil, See-some-evil, Do-some-evil, and Tattle-some-evil. Perfect, I think, and go along behind them plastering hair into place with spray and spit. They vehemently complain about my intrusion into their personal space.

Say-some-evil, hasn’t combed his hair in so long that his scalp hurts when the brush challenges the direction of hair growth. “Ouch,” he protests.

“Quit complaining. Turn around and let me see,” I admonish. I’m not prepared for the shock. Quickly, with both hands, I muss up his hair. He gives me a my-mom-is-so-weird-
but-I-got-what-I-want look.
“Get in the car,” I call out to deaf ears. I turn off the TV.

“What’d you do that for,” asks See-some-evil.

“Remember the reason I got you dressed?”

"No,” he lies.

Through clenched teeth, I demand, “Get in the car.”

“I don’t want my picture taken,” grumbles Say-some-evil, stomping out the door, kicking the cat.

We roll into the photography studio like a herd of elephants ahead of a tornado. And while I fi ll out the paperwork, my youngest son, Do-some-evil, begins traversing the
room by crawling under chairs and tables, both occupied and empty. Tattle-some-evil follows along whining, “I’m telling Mama.” See-some-evil encourages this raucous behavior just by observing. And Say-some-evil laughs uncontrollably.

The receptionist directs a piecing glare at me as she points to another patron’s two blond preschoolers sitting quietly on the margins, round-faced and red-lipped cherubs. “They’ve sat like that since they arrived.”

I want to scream at her, “Do you know what I went through to get here?” but I don’t. I smile tautly and explain, “That’s not normal.”

“Oh, and that is?” she sarcastically says, nodding at my boys dragging each other across the floor by the ankles, while my daughter hopscotches around the fingertips of the dragees.
At last, it’s our turn. They line up in front of the backdrop wiggling like worms in a styrofoam bowl. “Say Mama has stinky feet,” instructs the photographer. By some undeserved miracle, they forget their mission to mortify me, quit behaving like starved cats, and lean toward one another endearingly.

Smile. Flash. Snap.

Scramble. Bang. Crash.

The moment lost, we roll out of there like a barrel of rodeo clowns ahead of a bull.
(Excerpted from If Mama Don’t Laugh, It Ain’t Funny (Palm Tree Press), by Lucy Adams. Reprinted here by permission of the author.)

As a thank you for hosting her book tour, Lucy Adams, is giving one of Miss Blondie's readers an If Mama Don't Laugh baseball cap!! I'll be honest, i'm a little bummed I can't win this myself.

It's April and you know what that means right? Baseball season starts!! Opening day here in Boston was just last week and in case you didn't already know, I am a big Red Sox fan! I can't even describe how much pride there is here in our team. There's something so great about going to Fenway in the summer and singing "Sweet Caroline" in the 8th inning and cheering on your team with the amazing Boston fans. You would have to experience it to understand.

When you go to the games you know you want to bring your camera, phone, wallet, chapstick and whatever else you can't live without but where do you put it? If you're anything like me, you want to be able to show off your team spirit in fashion. I'd like to introduce you to, Tessuta. Tessuta was created by Andrea Greenspan, an entrepreneurial mom of 2 and as a mom blogger I love anything to support other moms. Tessuta’s collection features woven ribbon purses, memo boards and pillows that can be found on major sporting goods retailers’ websites and on 80 college campuses across the nation. Yes, ladies, now we can look super cute and be practical at the ball parks!

I was fortunate enough to receive the woven ribbon Red Sox Game Day bag from Tessuta and I can't wait to go to a game and bring it. The bag is small enough that it wont get in the way, but big enough to fit all your necessities. What I really like about the bag is that you can wear it across your chest instead of just on one shoulder, because then I don't have to worry about it going anywhere and my hands are free to cheer and hold a beer. Its also comfortable enough that you can wear it throughout the game instead of placing it on the nasty stadium floor. The Game Day bag has a snap closure and also an extra pocket on the backside of the bag. In my opinion, it is the perfect purse for a baseball game! I also have a feeling its going to be a huge trendsetter and all the women are going to ask me where I got it.

So how would you like to go to a baseball game and cheer on your favorite team in fashion??

Tessuta has offered one of Miss Blondie's readers a Game Day Bag of their choice! Yup, you pick the team!

Drink WAT-AAH! Challenge

When I heard of this WAT-AAH Challenge I knew I had to get in on it. For the entire month of April WAT-AAH is challenging parents to put WAT-AAH in the fridge next to the soda and observe what happens next. Most moms think the kids will pick the soda but WAT-AAH thinks the opposite and wants to prove it. So here are the results of my experiment:

The Setup:

Now, I don't usually allow Hunter to drink a lot of soda. I'll buy the little cans of caffeine-free whatever and he can have maybe one a day. So I placed the WAT-AAH next to his little cans and next to the juices to see what he would do. This is him inspecting the WAT-AAH and asking me, "What is this?"

The Result:

Okay, so not only did he choose the WAT-AAH over the soda and juice but he sat there and drank it like it wasn't out of the ordinary. When I asked him what he thought he said, " Its plain water. But, mama, can you buy me this kind from now on? I like the bottle."

So all in all I'd say this was a success and WAT-AAH proved the challenge to be right! Visit http://www.drinkwataah.com/ to participate in this fun challenge and see how your kids react.

So, like, ohmygawd, I like totally went out to this like wicked awesome restaurant the other night. And like I was with my friends and like the waiter was like totally cute. I was like, ohmygawd, he so like cute! And my friends were like "ick! Gag me with a spoon!" I don't know what their problem was, i mean seriously...he was like digging me! They're just jealous. Omygawd, they sooo wanna freakin be me, but I like totally dont blame them at all. I would so be jealous too. They were like totally wanting my jacket too because its so Retro. Totally! And because he was soooo cute, i had to like order like a salad with like lite dressing. I mean, really, he needs to know that i like wanna be like super skinny and like I couldn't let him see me all eating....eh! So like by the end of the night he like totally wanted me! It was sooo freakin obvious! But like he didn't ask me for my number or anything, but I like think it was because like my friends were there and he was probably like really shy or something.

* I know most of you probably think I'm crazy, but over at Momdot we are playing America's Next Top Blogger...(a reality tv type game) and this was one of the competitions! We're having fun!!
