Date Night

As you all know, Miss Blondie is a single mom. I haven't had a "boyfriend" in a year and a half....and sure i've "dated" a few guys, none of them were too promising. And by promising i mean worthy of meeting Hunter. However, i think all of that is about to change. I've already shared the news with my friends over on the Momdot forum but now its time to share it with all of you.

Sunday night, Miss Blondie went on a date. I was very excited about it. I haven't decided on what to refer to him as on my blog so for now we'll just call him "the boy." I've known him for a few years now and he knows Hunter and all about my situation...which obviously makes it much easier. We recently reconnected and began emailing each other. After a few days of emails, we exchanged numbers and talked for quite a while. So sunday, was finally our first date. He picked me up, took me to dinner, and had drinks afterwards. We ended up having one of those hour long conversations and just really connected. Since we already knew each other, we knew the chemistry was there. The date went awesome!

Yesterday, he surprised me at work with roses and recees peanut butter cups, which happen to be my absolute favorite. Not only does it show he has a really sweet side but he listens too!! Double bonus! This seems like it may be a promising relationship. Keep your fingers crossed for me!! I'll keep you posted.

Oh yeah, and date 2 is tomorrow night (thursday)!!

Wipe-Out

Last night Hunter had his first guitar lesson ever, and we went straight home afterwards. I live in a condo complex and pulled into my spot. But before i could get out, the people in the car parked next to me were getting out. The teenage girl in the passenger seat, very carefully got out and walked around to the back of the car. You see, everything is covered in ice. Its been extremely icy around here this week. Once she was clear out of the way, i opened my door to get out. Hunter got out of the back seat. I kept telling him to be careful...my car was literally surrounded by ice.

I was in the middle of repeating my "be careful" when all of a sudden.....

My feet start sliding. I tried to grab onto the car next to me to get my balance. No such luck! I fall smack down on my right side! So there i lay...sprawled across the ice for a prolonged amount of time. You would think i would've jumped up....nope, i stayed laying there like a frozen popsicle.

Hunter starts calling for me. I yell to him that i fell. And what do i hear.......???

A hysterical laughing hyena!! No lie. My son was laughing so hard and uncontrollably, to the point of tears in his eyes. Sure, i admit, i'm the first one to laugh when someone falls...its wicked friggin funny, but i was actually hurt and to hear my seven year old laughing at me was such a stinger. When i finally did get up, i noticed that the girl and her mother were standing on the other side of their car....laughing! I'm sure they were laughing because Hunter's laugh is so infectious but what if i had hit my head?!

Well, luckily i didn't. I do however, have a HUGE bruise on my hip and my knee and a small one on my elbow. Leave it to me! At least i didn't break anything!

Family funeral with a little drama...

Things have been a bit busy around here. I've spent the first few days of the new year de-cluttering my house. That included throwing away 11 pairs of shoes, 3 trash bags full of toys, and much more crap i found! Yesterday was the funeral for my great-grandmother. Because we were all prepared for her death it wasn't as devastating as it could have been. They held the wake yesterday morning too, right before the funeral instead of the night before. I thought that was a little odd but i guess since it was mostly just family going, it wasn't a big to-do. So what would a family event be without a little drama?!? Now i must apologize because its nothing too exciting in the way of drama.

Now, let me set the scenario up for you. Back in November my cousin Stacy (names have been changed to protect those involved), had a christening for her daughter. She had said she could only invite close family members because she didn't have a lot of money...which is fine. My grandmother made the dress for her daughter, so she was invited and i was invited. My grandmother and her grandmother are sisters. Are you still with me? Anyways, none of my grandmothers kids gets invited because of the whole money issue. So my grandmother and i go and much to our surprise my ENTIRE family was there and also friends of my cousins grandmother (who apparently knew nothing of the situation). Needless to say, my grandmother and i were quite pissed-off. She made a very expensive christening gown for this girl for free, and she pretty much said F***k you, you're kids aren't good enough. Anways, to make a long story short, my grandmother said something to her sister and she in turn told Stacy that it was completely wrong and rude what she had done.

So Stacy wrote my mother and my three aunts "apology" notes. Ya, if thats what she calls it. It went something like this " I'm sorry if you're feelings were hurt due to my financial situation"....ummm....no dumb Bitch no ones feelings were hurt b/c you are poor, their feelings are hurt because you invited non-family members over family members! DUH!

So, back to yesterday....i never said anything to Stacy or anything about the christening incident. I actually haven't talked to her or seen her since. So, when i walked into the funeral parlor, i made my rounds and was saying hello, when i got to her and my other cousins. I went over and tried to give hugs but all i got was barely a pat on the back from them. For whatever reason, none of my cousins on that side of the family would talk to me. Stacy wouldn't talk to me, look at me, and gave me the cold shoulder. Now, i can understand if she's embarrased by what happened...but what the hell did i do?? She was talking to my mom just fine and my mom was more pissed about it than me! It made just an awkward and uncomfortable situation for the entire day. And if she thought i was mad, why wouldn't she talk to me about it? I just can't understand it. I guess because if i have a problem with someone i let them know and try to work it out.

Stacy and i were always really close growing up too and i guess that's why i'm bothered by it. However, over the past few years we've grown apart. I was always the one making all the effort and i'm just done trying. I don't ever have to see these people except at funerals and weddings, so i'm fine with keeping myself distant....and that's ok, i dont need those family members anyways especially if thats the way they're gonna act.

Oh and one more thing that aggravated me....i finally got my glasses friday so naturally i've been wearing them....and all those douchebags cousins thought they were fake and i was trying to make a fashion statement. No Morons! I can't freakin see!! Basically, i had to make it a point to let everyone know that i just started wearing glasses because i need them! Argh, family!

Is this a Bad Omen???

This morning at 6:10 am my great-grandmother passed away. Not the great-grandmother i have in the generations picture here on my blog, but believe it or not, another one. Its my grandfathers mother who was 93! Her health had been deteriorating and we all pretty much new the end was coming. She had stopped eating and my grandfather (her healthcare proxy) had decided NOT to put in a feeding tube. Thank God, because that only prolongs the inevitable...i see it daily at work. She died in a nursing home where she was placed only a month ago. So my New Year is starting off with a family death and a funeral....is that a bad sign for the rest of the year? I sure hope not! But my other great-grandmother (the one in the picture) thinks that she is also going to go soon. She told my mother on Christmas that she can feel her body "going" and that it was probably her last Christmas :( Right now, she is my only living great-grandparent, and at 90 she is the matriarch of our family. She still even watches Hunter after school on tuesdays! She lives alone so for her, he is company, plus he helps her do things she cant do anymore. It'll be devastating when she goes.

But for now, Rest In Peace, Grace...you will be missed by all.
